I was commissioned to make a painting my client could turn to
and feel uplifted. He wanted to surround himself with lots of light,
a sense of abundance, family, friends and people who have inspired
him. He especially takes his inspiration from Bishop Desmond Tutu
who is the figure on the right.
Our collaboration stretches the notion of what portraiture can be.
Instead of merely portraying a person and what they look like at
a certain point in time, this approach portrays what he values
and what he feels.
