Graffiti I grew up in downtown Los Angeles, graffitied walls everywhere. Mostly gangs tagging their territory. Naturally there would be boundary disagreements and this was expressed in the graffiti. I wanted to get away from these hated walls. How could I get beyond them? The only
thing I felt I could do was hide within myself. However, here I found walls with more graffiti. Different
aspects of myself vying for attention. Who am I? What am I doing here? I wanted to know. So I studied
philosophy because it deals with such questions. Now these words have appeared on the wall of this painting; Different
philosophical schools sharing their wisdom and points of view. I have contemplated these words
for a long long time and they have brought me to a place of silence within myself. And in this
silence I find there are no walls. |
